Shigmo celebrated with traditional fervour in Margao

Shigmo was today celebrated in Margao with traditional fervour and pomp, as floats, mostly depicting mythological scenes wended their way through the streets from Holy Spirit church to the Margao municipal square.
The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat flagged off the parade this afternoon. The South Goa member of Parliament, Mr Francisco Sardinha, the Water Resources Minister, Mr Filipe Neri Rodrigues, the Panchayat Minister, Mr Manohar Azgaonkar, former chief minister, Mr Luizinho Faleiro and other MLAs were also present on the occasion
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said Goa’s unique culture and peaceful nature has made the state a jewel among all other states in the country adding that Goans, therefore have earned the respect they deserve. He also said that he will leave no stone unturned to keep the good name of Goa flying high and that the ‘aam admmi’ will always remain happy in the state under the present government. He further added that he would always be with the people and lend a helping hand to promote such cultural programmes.
Over 90 floats participated in the parade. Eleven surviving founder members of the original Shigmo samiti, were also felicitated on the occasion. Margao wore a festive look with flags, decorations and masks seen hanging along the parade route. Foreign tourists also witnessed the programme in large numbers.
