Amarnath row ends, Shrine Board can temporarily use land

There has been a breakthrough in the Amarnath land row crisis in Jammu. The Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti has suspended its nearly two month-long agitation over the Amarnath land row with a compromise having been worked out between the samiti and the government just a while ago.

Leela Karan Sharma, convener of the samiti, said that the core issue had been resolved. The government has allowed the shrine board exclusive use of the Amarnath land for three months during the yatra. The government will review demands to withdraw cases against protestors. The Amarnath shrine board will be reconstituted. Financial losses suffered by transporters and traders will taken by the state govt.

People across Jammu are celebrating after almost 2 months of violence and death in the region.

However, reports of militants' presence on the outskirts of Jammu have led to indefinite curfew being imposed in Jammu city and 5 other districts. The Amy has been put on stand by. No passes have been issued to the media either, and authorities are keeping a close watch on all suspicious activity in the region.

The samiti was planning to take out a victory rally on Sunday.
