The strained UPA-Left relations over the Indo-US nuclear deal is going to be the dominant theme at the two-day meeting of the CPM Central Committee, which begins in Kolkata on Saturday
At its last meeting, the core panel of CPM had left it to the politburo to decide the party’s line on the issue. But differences within the politburo have once again forced a discussion in the larger forum.
While some party leaders are opposed to the deal, West Bengal leaders like Jyoti Basu and Budhadeb Bhattacharjee feel otherwise.
The CPM Central Committee will also take a decision on revoking the suspensions of two party leaders in Kerala, VS Achuthanandan and Pinarai Vijayan, from the politburo. Both of them had been suspended as politburo members on May 26 following intense infighting in the party.
The repression by the military junta in Myanmar on peaceful protestors and Ram Setu issue are also likely to be discussed.
