Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday accused the media in Delhi of bias against him only because he belonged to the most backward class category.
“Journalists in New Delhi are especially concentrating on issues relating to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences as I am from MBC,” he said, possibly referring to the controversy over the removal of AIIMS director Dr P Venugopal.
The minister, who was speaking at a book release function, belongs to the Vanniyar community, which is listed as a most backward class in Tamil Nadu.
Later, when reporters approached him to elaborate, he said: “Whatever I said in the speech.... I do not want to comment more about it.”
Dr Venugopal was removed as the AIIMS head following a new Bill brought in by Dr Ramadoss that fixed 65 years as retirement age of AIIMS directors. The Bill had led to a furore with many taking the view that the minister’s animosity with Venugopal had led to it. Dr Venugopal has moved the Supreme Court against the Bill.

TN medicos continue strike, vow to intensify struggle
Unperturbed by the Tamil Nadu government's warning to striking medicos that colleges and hostels would be closed temporarily if they did not call off their strike, the agitators on Sunday continued with their stir and also vowed to intensify their struggle.
The medicos, who went on a fast on Sunday, are working out the future course of action in the event of the government going ahead with its warning.
Students said that the warning by the state government "cannot shake our determination" and that they would continue with their agitation against the extension of the MBBS course duration and the compulsory rural postings within it.
"We may stay in our friends' houses or do something else, but will not pay heed to the state's warning," a student of the Stanley Medical College here said.
Meanwhile, the students' parents are also thinking of joining their wards in their protest against Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss' proposal to extend the course duration.
A recent hearing of the Dr Sambasiva Rao committee, formed to take the opinions of stakeholders in medical education, saw many parents expressing their apprehensions against the Centre's proposal.

T.S.Niveditha whistling Queen from Chennai
Whistling is probably not a hobby that will go down well in public. But in Chennai, a young woman's talent to whistle is her claim to fame.
It has been 22-year-old T S Nivedhita's passion for almost 10 years now. And it is this passion that has earned the management student the title of Whistle Queen. So does she think it's enough?
“I have got some recognition, but I hope that it will be given more importance. Actually the problem is that that it is not even considered an art in India. That should be changed,” Niveditha said.
Since childhood whistling has been Niveditha’s favourite pastime. She used to whistle even while doing her homework and that’s when her parents, both vocalists, recognised the talent and encouraged her to pursue it. Her first concert was held in Chennai in1998.
“Because of her I got to meet MS Subbalakhmi and even went to the President’s office. All these beautiful moments make me very proud and I hope that she will be able to achieve more,” Niveditha's mother, Nikhila Shyam Sundar said.

Karunanidhi eulogising LTTE leader is serious: AIADMK
CHENNAI: Maintaining that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi could not continue in his post after "eulogising" outlawed LTTE's political wing leader S P Tamilchelvan, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa has said that her party had no other option but to move the Supreme Court as the Centre had "not realised the seriousness of the issue."
"There can't be two different views that Karunanidhi's action of expressing condolence on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government is anti-constitutional and a treason. A person who openly supports a terrorist outfit, proscribed in the country, cannot continue in the post of chief minister," she said in a statement here.
On the DMK chief's argument that MDMK chief Vaiko, an ally of the AIADMK, had also condoled the death of the LTTE leader, Jayalalithaa said Vaiko had neither taken the oath of office, as per Indian Constitution, as chief minister nor was holding any official post
