Union Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Monday accused the media in Delhi of bias against him only because he belonged to the most backward class category.
“Journalists in New Delhi are especially concentrating on issues relating to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences as I am from MBC,” he said, possibly referring to the controversy over the removal of AIIMS director Dr P Venugopal.
The minister, who was speaking at a book release function, belongs to the Vanniyar community, which is listed as a most backward class in Tamil Nadu.
Later, when reporters approached him to elaborate, he said: “Whatever I said in the speech.... I do not want to comment more about it.”
Dr Venugopal was removed as the AIIMS head following a new Bill brought in by Dr Ramadoss that fixed 65 years as retirement age of AIIMS directors. The Bill had led to a furore with many taking the view that the minister’s animosity with Venugopal had led to it. Dr Venugopal has moved the Supreme Court against the Bill.
