The Gujarat Miracle'was screened

With the focus shifting to Gujarat elections for the next couple of months, now that the heat is no longer on mid-term parliamentary polls, BJP is projecting chief minister Narendra Modi as the party’s brand ambassador in the state and his development agenda as the main poll plank.

In its attempt to retain power in the state for the third consecutive term, Modi is BJP’s biggest strength in taking on main rival Congress. This was evident from a 45-minute film that showcased Gujarat’s development model with Modi at the helm. ‘India Tomorrow: The Gujarat Miracle’ was screened on Sunday at the BJP headquarters here, in the presence of party chief Rajnath Singh and senior leader in-charge of Gujarat Arun Jaitley
.
As Singh was all praise for the results that Modi had produced for the state and the party, there was hardly any scope for dissensions among partymen in the state or flaws in governance to show up, though the party chief has been dealing with Modi’s detractors over the past month or more.

The film, which essentially dealt with the fast-paced industrial and rural development path that the state has taken under Modi, also talked of how the Modi regime had provided a terror-free state. It emphasised that there were hardly any terror strikes in the state in the past few years while other regions were hit, crediting the Modi administration for effectively keeping such incidents at bay.

Interestingly, the documentary on Modi’s “good governance” - as opposed to the troubled situation elsewhere, like in West Bengal (ruled by the Left Front) and in Maharashtra (ruled by Congress-NCP) - also included the CM’s assurance of protecting minorities - an issue that had tainted Modi’s image in the aftermath of post-Godhra riots in 2001.
