A majority of Indians, along with other Asia-Pacific citizens, believe the world would be a better place to live in if global influence of the United States is reduced, says a latest survey.
According to a survey, conducted by global market information provider TNS and Gallup International, 62 per cent of Indians believe that the world would become a better place if the global influence of US is decreased.
The 2007 Voice of People survey reveals that about 41 per cent of citizens in the Asia-Pacific region would also like to see a decreasing influence of US.
Interestingly, almost all the people surveyed in India believe the country should increase its role in the global scenario. About 97 per cent of people surveyed believe India should increase its global influence.
Nearly three in 10 respondents among the total respondents also believe India should increase its level of influence (27 per cent), the survey which includes opinions of more than 57,000 people in 52 countries, it said.
The respondents' attitude towards an increase or decrease in influence of those powers closer geographically to their own country greatly varies, depending on whether the behaviour of the neighbour is perceived as beneficial or is viewed with suspicion
