Sonia Gandhi pushed the party into election mode

A day after she spoke of Congress's readiness to face mid-term polls, Sonia Gandhi on Sunday further pushed the party into election mode by lashing out at the critics of the India-US nuclear deal as "enemies of development" and urging people to teach them a befitting lesson
.
"Certain elements create obstacles in the path to progress. They (read opponents of the deal) are not only enemies of Congress but also enemies of peace and development. We should join hands in giving them a befitting answer," she said at a public meeting at Jhajjar, Haryana. This was the first public advocacy of the nuclear deal by the UPA chief at home; earlier she had spoken for the deal at a meeting with NRIs in New York.

In her speech at Jhajjar, though she did not name the Left parties, it was not lost on the audience that the barb was aimed at the "comrades" who have placed the nuclear deal in the context of their anti-imperialist ideology.
