Describing the Congress move to enhance Haj subsidy an attempt to woo its minority vote bank in Gujarat Assembly polls, Akali Dal General Secretary Onkar Singh Thapar has appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to subsidise the travel of people of other faiths also to their religious shrines abroad.
He vowed to take the matter to a “logical conclusion” and said a delegation of Akalis would soon meet the Prime Minister on this issue.
The Akali leader welcomed the Haj subsidy, but he questioned the secular credentials of the UPA regime. He pointed out that Haj subsidy had been enhanced from Rs 343 crore to Rs 368 crore.....
