A bill to protect unauthorised constructions and slums in Delhi from the court ordered demolition and ceiling drives was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Introducing the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill, 2007, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs B K Handique said a need was felt to maintain status quo in respect of unauthorised colonies, slum dwellers and JJ clusters involved in constructions beyond permissible building limits.
The Bill seeks to replace the earlier National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill, 2007.
Based on representations received and discussions held, it was felt that storages, warehouses and godowns meant for agricultural inputs built on agricultural land in rural areas needed to be included in the list of unauthorised development to be protected so as to avoid any adverse impact on account of their sudden closure by sealing, he said.
