Double murder, suicide in Mumbai

The spurned lover of a 23-year-old aspiring model and actress allegedly shot her mother and uncle dead before committing suicide inside the apartment of his ex-girlfriend in a North West suburb.
Avinash Bhupen Patnaik (22), a resident of Orissa entered the ninth floor apartment of model Moon Das in the New Link Garden building in suburban Andheri's Yamuna Nagar while looking for her late on Thursday night, police said today.

Das and Patnaik had got acquainted when the former had gone to Orissa to perform on a New Year's Eve programme on December 31 last and gradually got into a relationship, which lasted 7-8 months.

The model had recently ended the relationship and an agitated Patnaik armed with a country made revolver entered her home looking for her at around 2300 hours on Thursday.

''He could not find her there and shot dead her mother Kannan Das and maternal uncle Vikas Chandra Sarkar inside the apartment from a point blank range. Das came to the house at around 0010 hours along with a male friend and discovered the two bodies and saw Patnaik standing there,'' a senior police official from the Oshiwara police station, where a case of murder has been registered, said.
