1984 anti-Sikh riots case

In the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is set to tell the court how it wants to get eyewitness Jasbir Singh's testimony.


However, speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, Jasbir says CBI has not spoken to him yet though he stands by his indictments of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler.


“I saw Tytler inciting the mob outside the hospital at the Kinsway camp, he was saying, ‘Because of you, I am ashamed to look at Sajjan Kumar constituency in the north or HKL Bhagat's constituency in the east. Colony after colony of Sikhs have been destroyed but in my area so few have been killed',” recounts Jasbir Singh.


Jasbir, who claims to be an eyewitness to massacre at the Pull Bangash in north Delhi, says he has testified against Tytler at every platform but justice has proved elusive with the CBI declaring him missing.


CBI had filled the closure report giving a clean chit to Tytler till CNN-IBN traced Jasbir to his California residence.


“CBI said they can’t find me. They have finally accepted that I am available. All I want now is that the killers who murdered our people, raped our women, should be punished, even if its after 23 years,” says Singh.


Jasbir says his family back home has been threatened but he is still willing to repeat his statement in the court provided his safety is guaranteed.


CBI officers should come to California to take my statement or as the court is now saying my testimony should be taken via video conferencing.


On December 18, the CBI is scheduled to finally tell the court how it wants to record Jasbir's testimony but since a closure report has already been filled it will first have to seek the court's permission to reopen the case.
