Aaja Nachle song is it copy?

Mayawati might no longer ban Sunidhi Chauhan’s song ‘Aaja Nachle’, but there seems to be fresh trouble for this number.

The tar shehnai prelude to the number is a note-to-note lift of Angshuman Roy’s ‘Dada paye pori re, mela theke bou ene de’. Apparently, a parody of this number — ‘O bou dukhe mori re/ Sasur amar more gelo re’ — has also been in circulation.

Said Dohar’s Kalikaprasad, “This isn’t any traditional folk song. It was written by Gouriprasanna Majumdar and set to tune by Roy. The Aaja Nachle refrain is a copy of ‘Dada paye pori’ song that was originally composed in the folk mould.”

Aaja Nachle director Anil Mehta said, “We didn’t set out to make a copy. There was an uncanny similarity with this Bengali folk song when someone sung it to me.

I see it as Salim-Sulaiman taking the melody and then making a different composition. As for the Mayawati imposed ban, the exhibitors have been instructed to physically delete this line from the song.
