China open a consulate in Kolkata

China's Consul General Mao Siwei on Tuesday said the country will shortly open a consulate office in Kolkata.

"We are looking for space for the consulate in Kolkata which will be the second after Mumbai," he told during an interactive session with Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

According to an agreement between India and China, the communist country will open their office in Kolkata and India will open one in Guangzhou.

In the nine months between January and September 2007, the bilateral trade between China and India was USD 27 billion. It was expected to touch USD 30 billion by the end of the year, he said.
