With the growth in virtual retail market through Internet and tele-shopping, a 24-hour home shopping television channel will be launched soon.
"The first Indian shopping television channel would be launched by February-March, with focus on providing quality and branded products to its customers in an interactive format," Sundeep Malhotra, CEO, Homeshop18, a Network18 group venture said.
The 24x7 shopping channel will target 550 million cable television viewers from 2,000 cities across the country. The channel with more than 15,000 products to offer has partnered with 150 brands.
"With the ever-increasing middle class income that are directly proportional to lack of leisure time, home shopping through television has immense potential in India as it offers convenience, value, quality and attractive prices." Homeshop18 Marketing Head Ruchika Lamba said.
According to industry reports, virtual retail has evolved over the years through various platform like telephone shopping, catalog shopping, Internet shopping.
The consumer Internet market is expected to reach about Rs 9,210 crore by the end of 2007-08 as against Rs 7,080 crore last year, out of which 1,100 crore would be of e-retailing, reveals a survey by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).
Industry body Assocham has also pointed out that products sold online are expected to grow by 150 per cent.
