The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president play host to molestation accused

The 14 youth accused in the Mumbai molestation incident turned up with friends and relatives at Raj Thackeray's residence late on Thursday evening to plead their case.

This also looks like an attempt to turn a sensitive case into a political spectacle.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president was more than glad to pay host and after the incident had said that it's not in Maharashtran culture to molest women. On Thursday he sent out a clear message, that he's the protector of Maharashtran youth - guilty or not.

Thackeray also showed support to the accused and escorting him halfway across the city, the former youth leader of the Shiv Sena led them to the residence of the State Home Minister.

Causing an embarrassing flutter in political circles only a couple of days ago, this is what the Home Minister R R Patil had said, ''I will not allow women to be molested.''

But on Thursday, playing host to a dozen young men accused of molestation led by another senior politician, he chose to play safe.

Patil said, ''Lots of people come to meet me. But I am not interfering with the investigation.''

The accused released on bail have turned the case into a public spectacle, resorting to political blessings. The politicians seem to be obliging them as well.
