The Digambar Kamat government continues to face criticism over the issue of SEZ even after it has been scrapped, with the alliance partners as well as the Opposition gunning for the heads of those behind the hurried allotment of plots to SEZ projects.
Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godinho was the first to begin the onslaught claiming that the SEZs would have cause huge influx of outsiders reducing Goans into minority in their own land.
Participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks to governor’s address, he blamed those at the helm of affairs when the proposals were passed. He called for de- notification of the three notified SEZs immediately and revert the land back to the GIDC.Save Goa Front MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco expressed similar sentiments on the issue claiming SEZ was not at all required for a small State like Goa.
Reginaldo demanded that land should be reverted to the original owners at the earliest.Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar was equally vocal in calling for the heads of those behind the land scam under the name of SEZ.
He claimed that there was a huge scam under the name of SEZ and urged the chief minister to conduct a high-level inquiry into the matter. He said SEZ policy came into effect in July 2006 but months before that GIDC had allotted land to various parties for SEZ. “Was it not illegal?” he questioned.He alleged that the agenda for an important meeting, at which land was allotted for SEZ, was received by finance secretary, Director of Industries and others officials at 5.30 pm when the meeting was scheduled for 3 pm.
He also pointed out several lapses in the Verna Industrial Estate Phase IV wherein the rates were not touched even though the rates of Phase I, II and III were increased from Rs 600 to Rs 750 and in one case
