Congress to protest Karat's remarks on Rajiv Gandhi

"Though Rajiv Gandhi and his mother Indira Gandhi sacrificed their lives and successfully brought many separatists into the mainstream, Karat has made totally unsubstantiated remarks against them," Prithviraj Chauhan, minister in-charge of the prime minister's office, said Tuesday here.

Karat had told an election rally here on Sunday that the Congress with the help of militants had long been on a mission to destabilise the Left Front in Tripura.

"Since the tenure of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress allegedly has been using and encouraging militants to destabilise the Left Front Government in Tripura," Karat had said.

The CPI-M leader also alleged that the Congress party has forged an alliance with the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), which according to him, has been 'a mask of underground rebels'.

"Alliance between the Congress and the INPT is dangerous for the unity and integrity of the country because the INPT has clandestine links with the insurgents of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT)," Karat said while addressing the rally.
