Enough grounds to arrest Raj Thackeray

http://www.indiadaily.org/images/raj_thackery.jpgIn a setback to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, the Advocate General of India on Thursday said that there were enough grounds to arrest him.

According to sources in the Advocate General's office, the officer has informed the Maharashtra government that Thackeray can be arrested for inciting hatred between communities.

He reportedly said that it was now upto the state government to take the decision.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is in New Delhi, said that the government was getting a legal opinion on what action could be taken against the MNS chief.

''For an arrest warrant, we are seeking the opinion of the Advocate General. Police will take action accordingly,'' he said.

Taxi drivers call off strike

The taxi drivers in Mumbai have called off their strike after State Home Minister R R Patil's assurance.

They had decided to go on a flash strike after their office was attacked. Mobsters, suspected to be activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, had attacked the office on Thursday.

Stones were thrown at the office premises and property was damaged. Eighty per cent of Mumbai's 55,000 taxis are affiliated to the taxi union.
