Not afraid of terrorism: Advani

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani said here on Wednesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party was not afraid of terrorism and there was no question of his rallies being called off in the wake of perceived threat to his life.

Mr. Advani, who was addressing a public rally at the launch of a “vijay sankalp yatra,” said his “yatra” would continue despite the increased threat perception. The government had sought time “to make arrangements for the rallies to be held in different cities during the course of the ‘yatra’ and we are ready to reschedule the original plan,” he said.
“Appeasement policy”

The senior BJP leader said terrorists were having a field day due to the appeasement policy of the United Progressive Alliance government.

He pointed to the growing problem of terrorism, Maoist extremism and infiltration by Bangladeshis and said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government had done everything to combat these problems.

Mr. Advani asked four questions: How many terrorist camps were demolished between 2004 and 2008?; why Afzal Guru, convicted by the Supreme Court for attacking Parliament, has not been hanged till now?; How many accused have been arrested so far for the terror attacks in Ayodhya, Varanasi and other parts of the country?; and what steps taken to stop infiltration in Assam keeping in view the order of the Supreme Court?.

Mr. Advani said his “yatra” should not be seen as an election campaign. It only symbolised people’s hopes and national pride.

The country’s future could be built only by combating the scourge of communalism, casteism and vote- bank politics, the BJP leader said.
