New Delhi: A cargo ship carrying ten Indian crew members has been hijacked off the coast of Somalia. Heavily armed Somali pirates took over the ship close to the capital, Mogadishu, two days ago.
The ship, M V Victoria was delivering humanitarian aid to the war-torn country hit by food shortages.
The Jordanian vessel had sailed from Mumbai with 21 crew members on board and ten of them are India. Of the others, two are from Pakistan, two Burmese, two Bangladeshis, three Kenyans and two Tanzanians.
The crew sent out a distress signal at the time of the attack, but there has been no further news of them.
Piracy and armed robbery have become frequent off the Somalian coast.
Infact, the M V Victoria had been attacked by pirates last year too, but it escaped.
Indian authorities have alerted the Somalian Coast Guard and the International Maritime Bureau.
