It's a candid peep into the persona of Satyajit Ray, the result of the reclusive director's concession to one of his ardent admirers to capture him in freeze frame
.
"When I was shooting in his house, he was quite cooperative. He did not dictate anything. Whatever I liked, I shot," says Asit Poddar, photographer.
Poddar trailed Ray for a good 12 years. Some were on assignment but mostly to follow his favourite subject at work.
"Once I was assigned by Pritish Nandy for the Illustrated Weekly then I got a chance to shoot in his house. While, another session was during the shooting of Aguntak," says Poddar.
Eleven rare black and white photographs, in archival print, are on display at Gallery Kanishka's till May 30.
The good news for Ray buffs who want a piece of these magic moments: 10 limited editions of each photograph are up for grabs.
