Tourists in S Goa keep away from seas

MARGAO — The mishap at Colva beach might have raised a few eyebrows, but it did not keep the people away from the beaches in South Goa. The beaches looked rather quiet with the sudden disappearance of water sports and related activities, the people, mostly tourists made the most of the open spaces on the beach as they played in the water and the sand while others just enjoyed the waves coming against the shore.
However, some persons who were not enjoying life were the lifeguards as they had to keep a strict watch to prevent any further mishaps as many people wandered into deep sea quite unaware of the dangers.
In a random survey conducted on various beaches, we found that the tourists are aware of the risks but tend to take it easy for the sake of enjoyment.
A group from Bangalore informed that they are aware of the risks of venturing into the sea even as their guide had warned them of the dangers. They informed that they were even informed about yesterday’s mishap and that the guide had told them not got for any water sport even if the operators made very tempting offers.
They further said that despite warning, they did enjoy a good swim and planned another one before they left Goa.
Another couple from Pune who are in Goa for their honeymoon, Mr Neeraj Negi said that despite all dangers, he would still take to water sports if he was with his friends. However, since he is with his newly wed wife, he will not take the risk but rather enjoy the sea from the shore.
A group from Delhi were quick to say “Jaan hai to Jahaan hai” referring to yesterday’s mishap. They informed that their guide has warned them of the dangers.
The group said that nobody from the group ventured into the deep sea and all of them stay close to each other at all times to ensure that should tragedy strike they are all together and can help each other out in an eventuality.
Mr Prabhjot Singh from Punjab said that he loves Goa and the beaches; however he gets scared of venturing into the sea. He said he and his wife restricted themselves to only standing on the shore or some strolls along the shore.
Mr Singh said he would never take to water sports as there are too many dangers involved.
Secondly he said the people operating do not have complete knowledge of the activities they are involved in and hence don’t know how to handle the situation when disaster strikes.
