Gurjars return to talking table after two weeks

New Delhi: After more than a fortnight of violent agitation, which have claimed 37 lives in police firing, the Gurjars demanding Scheduled Tribe status on Friday decided to hold talks with the Rajasthan government.
However, soon after the Gurjars decided to hold talks, protesting Gurjars were forcibly removed from their blockade at Bandikui in Rajasthan.
Forty-three men and 25 women have been arrested. If these talks fail, the Gurjars will call for a Bharat Bandh on June 10.
The state government has yet to confirm whether the talks will be held on Saturday or not.
The decision of holding talks with the state government were taken at the Gurjar Mahapanchayat held on Friday at Karwadi. Gurjar representatives from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and from other parts of Rajasthan took part in the Mahapanchayat, which was headed by Gurjar leader, Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla.
Bainsla thanked Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amar Singh, Lok Janshakti leader Uma Bharti, farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait, LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan among others for the support extended by them to the Gurjars.
A meeting of Gurjar leaders will be held on Friday evening to decide the community's stand during the talks.
Bainsla himself will not be taking part in the talks but will be sending his representatives. He has however, said the talks should be held at Bayana in Bharatpur district which has been the epicentre of the stir by the community since May 23.
Bainsla said Gurjar representatives for the talks would be announced after receiving a communication from the state government.
