Sanju's desire to contest polls opposed

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's desire to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha elections has been severely opposed by Residents Associations in Mumbai North West parliamentary constituency where his sister Priya Dutt is the sitting MP.
Residents Associations in Bandra, Khar and Santacruz held a press conference on Sunday making it clear that they were opposed to any such attempt by the actor.
They also announced their plan to undertake a signature campaign against Dutt or any other person with a criminal background standing for elections.
They said the actor's sister Priya was a better leader. ''She is approachable, amiable, supportive and most importantly she makes no discrimination between rich and poor voters,'' they added.
Shayma Kulkarni, chairperson of the H West Ward Citizens Trust, said if Sanjay Dutt becomes an MP it will be a ''threat that has to be nipped at the bud''.
Last week, Samajwadi Party leaders Amar Singh and Abu Asim Azmi had visited the actor in an attempt to woo him in their fold.
The actor's companion Manyata has said on a television show that Sanjay can win elections contesting on any party's ticket or even as an independent.
Sanjay had expressed his desire to contest elections at a function organised by a local MLA to mark the 3rd death anniversary of his father late Sunil Dutt.
