Minister warns against 'Hindu fundamentalists', draws flak

The ongoing violence in Orissa has prompted the Centre to come down heavily on certain Hindu groups, accusing them of being involved in other cases as well.

As fingers point to SIMI in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad blasts, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sri Prakash Jaiswal, has come on record to say Hindu fundamentalist groups are under suspicion as well.

Seven bombs were seized from the coaching centre in Kanpur on Tuesday, Jaiswal's constituency.

“Two persons were killed making bombs in Kanpur, they are from the Bajrang Dal,” he said.

Many are questioning the timing of this statement. “We condemn the allegation. They (Congress) have turned the CBI into a political too,” said BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The ministers in the UPA have gone on record to say that if SIMI is to be banned, the government should also look at banning groups like Bajrang Dal

Its critics say that unable to come out with a clear answer on the Kashmir crisis, the Government is doing political shadow boxing, turning the fight against terrorism into a fight against the Opposition.
