Veerapan's memorabilia pulling crowd in TN

For years, forest brigand Veerapan's name struck terror in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala. But now his personal belongings are drawing huge crowds at an exhibition put up by the Tamil Nadu police in Salem district.

The exhibits include some of his weapons, a shirt, a radio, a few maps, some medicine and hold your breath, even a blood pressure monitoring device.

"It's amazing to see all things used by Veerapan in the exhibition. Although Veerapan is a terrorist we are interested to know about him," some of the people who visited the exhibition said.

Veerapan had allegedly killed around 130 people including 42 policemen and poached around two thousand elephants.

Also on display is a pictorial representation of operation cocoon that lured the forest brigand into an ambulance which was meticulously surrounded by the special task force vehicles on a highway.

Even for journalists, it's surprising how with very few gadgets and not so sophisticated weapons Veerapan had ruled the jungles almost for three decades.

After gunning him down, this exhibition it seems is the Tamil Nadu Police's way of telling people: Count on us.
