Family remembers legendary actor Rajendra Kumar

It might have been 10 years since the great actor Rajendra Kumar passed away but he is still remembered and respected for his great contribution to the Indian film industry.

And on his 10th anniversary his daughter Dimple Patel is now planning to come out with a documentary on him. She recorded her father’s last television interview in Los Angeles where Rajendra was undergoing treatment for ill health.

“My dad went into deep talks about his childhood, career, his body of work and everything. He was generally very philosophical kind of person who was not only just an actor but was knowledgeable about every area of life,” says Dimple.

Rajendra shot to fame in 1957 with the blockbuster film Mother India and after that there was no looking back. Goonj Uthi Shehnai came in 1959 followed by Sangam, Dhool Ka Phool, Arzoo, Mere Mehboob and Ganwaar.

The actor was later named as Jubilee Kumar for his habit of delivering silver jubilee hits in a row. Later on in the 80s he launched his son Kumar Gaurav in the super hit Love Story.

“I had to do a screen test. Rahul Rawail was called, he directed the screen test. He saw the screen test. I was kept outside the auditorium and I was having all kind of anxieties. He went inside the auditorium, saw it, came out and just hugged me and said we are on,” recalls Gaura
