Konkona: Me, sex symbol? Why not?

Or so you would think. Not Konkona Sen Sharma. She defies a number of labels you would want to pin on her – intense actor? “Well, actually, I made my debut with Mixed Doubles which was a rollicking comedy,” she offers. Sensible girl? “Well, I was a snot-wiping village simpleton in Aaja Naachle,” she counters, “I’d never played a foolish girl before — how could I resist?”

Least likely to turn sex symbol, you would think? “I would if the role demanded it. It’s not like scripts are sitting there waiting for me to expose — I haven’t had such offers but it’s not like I wouldn’t consider it... but no, not just for the heck of it.” Not quite the ahem... conventional beauty? “What me? I don’t even think like that! I like what I see in the mirror,” she shoots back.

Never mind that the early reports of the upcoming Wake Up Sid had her pitched as a ‘not-so-conventional beauty’. “I don’t consider myself as ‘pitted’ against beautiful women in our industry. I see it as different roles demanding different kinds of actors to play them. I’m not the kind of actor that plays those kind of roles.” Most people, (“not even people who are interested in me” she says) don’t realise she’s done over 25 films.
