It was reported that Ayesha Takia, wife of restaurateur Farhan Azmi, wore a burqa while campaigning for her father-in-law Abu Asim Azmi. However, the actress is screaming herself hoarse saying that she never wore a burqa and will never wear one in her life.
Currently promoting her forthcoming film Wanted, Ayesha Takia clarifies the rumours: “I never wore a burqa. Why would I wear one? It’s very absurd that people think like this. It’s so ridiculous. I think some people spread rumours about me because there’s nothing else to talk about or maybe there’s not much I can do for people to talk about.”
Hailing from a multi-cultural background, Ayesha Takia also confesses to not having visited temples or doing pujas. “I don’t look down upon anything. But life for me isn’t about being Hindu or Muslim. So I wearing a burqa is an absurd story. I don’t look down upon anything. To each his own. If someone wishes to wear one, it’s great. But I wouldn’t!”
Ayesha loves the fact that Farhan’s family is very open-minded and everyone respects each other. “Farhan comes from a very liberal family. They are very graceful people,” said the actress. When asked if Ayesha has converted to Islam, she said, “No, I haven’t. I respect all religions, but don’t follow any particular one. I simply believe in God, nothing else matters.”
