Kamal Haasan is cracking whip on fake fan clubs

Tamil actor Kamal Haasan is cracking the whip on fake fan clubs as many are busy making quick money on the Internet.

It's a time which Kamal Haasan's fans were eagerly waiting for, the release of Dasavatharaam to see their hero don 10 different roles. But capitalising on this is a high tech racket on the net.

An unauthorised website universalherokamal.com has begun selling T shirts at Rs 200 each showing stills from the movie. The online community on Orkut has only made the racket more widespread.

With the website claiming to have 38,000 fans Kamal's legal team feels that these clubs riding on his name could have amassed close to Rs 7 crore.

Kamal Haasan has now initiated legal action and has warned his welfare associations to not fall prey to this gimmick.

"Kamal Haasan never uses his fans for his business interests. He always advises them to donate blood and their eyes and asks them to do something good. This looks as though the sale is on with Kamal's approval. What will a common man think?," asked R Gunaseelan, Administrator, Kamal Haasan Welfare Association.

Those behind the website are not willing to speak on camera but say there was no commercial interest in their attempt. They've now carried an apology on their orkut page. With 25 per cent of tickets earmarked for them, fan club is a lucrative venture in Tamil Nadu.
