In a major breakthrough in the Samjhauta Express blasts, Delhi Police and intelligence have identified a man named Iqbal as one of the culprits. Iqbal is said to be a member of Lashkar-e-Toiba.
While the exact role of Iqbal — who is about 25 years old — in executing the blasts is yet to be ascertained, security agencies believe he had a role in arranging the explosives for the blasts and may have even planted one of the bombs on the train.
Sixty-eight people were killed in the blasts which took place at Deewana near Panipat. The blasts were triggered by low-intensity explosives which were accompanied by inflammable material to create a fire in the coaches.
Investigations have revealed that Iqbal has in the past often helped the terrorist outfit sneak explosives into Delhi and other places in the country. His dossier says he has visited the Valley several times and may have even been to Pakistan.
"It's difficult to say anything with certainty as no arrest has been made in the case so far either by Haryana Police or Delhi Police. This man though has links with the train blasts and can help us identify the main conspirators," said a security official.
