The hearing in the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Saraswathi are the main accused, was on Monday deferred to January 4.
Only 10 of the 24 accused were present when the case came up for hearing before the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Puducherry, D Krishnaraja.
The absentees included the two seers. The case pertains to the murder of Sankararaman, the Manager of the Kanchipuram Varadarajaperumal temple on September 3, 2004.
Meanwhile, a Special Leave Petition filed by the defence in the Supreme court, questioning the continuance of the Special Public Prosecutor of Tamilnadu in the case being heard in Union Territory of Puducherry is pending disposal
