Demanding greater accountability from Pakistan for all the aid it receives from the US, a top Republican presidential hopeful has said that the USD 10 billion provided to the Musharraf regime to fight extremism gives Washington the "right of passage" to unilaterally take out terror targets in the country's tribal areas.
"We need to make it very clear that we do expect, for the kind of money we've poured into Pakistan since September 11 -- some USD 10 billion -- we expect a greater accountability for that money actually going to find, locate, and destroy terrorists," former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee said on CNN's "Late Edition".
Huckabee has generally disagreed with President George W Bush on his decision to stick with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.
Huckabee said if he was president, he would make sure that the US demands "greater accountability" for the funds it provides to Islamabad and ask for a greater level of cooperation and commitment so that, when actionable targets are found in Pakistan, "we have the green light to go after those targets".
