Modi wooing to unite Hindutva forces

Chief Minister Narendra Modi's big battle, it seems, is within his own party. His latest strategy is an attempt at uniting Hindutva forces including the VHP, and bringing rebel BJP leader and President of Rashtriya Janta Party, Uma Bharati back into the fold.

However, Bharati was last heard saying: "We could field as many as many as 60 candidates in Gujarat elections."

The flip-flop continues with less than seven days to go for withdrawal of nominations in Gujarat for the second phase of polling and it seems as if the Sangh Parivar's efforts to get Uma Bharati to withdraw her candidates have hit another roadblock.

Even the intervention of her guru, Vishwa Tirth appears to have failed for a section of the national BJP leadership is against the sanyasin's return to the party's main fold.

In fact, BJP President, Rajnath Singh only has one thing to say when asked if she is going to be welcomed back into the party: "What about Uma Bharati?"
