Public prosecutor gunned down in Bihar

A Bihar public prosecutor who was representing prosecution in speedy trial of all the criminal cases involving don-turned-MP Surajbhan Singh was gunned down by assailants at his residence in Begusarai town on Thursday.
Surajbhan Singh is a leader of Lok Janshakti Party, headed by Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan, and an MP from Balia in Begusarai district.

Ram Naresh Sharma was an additional public prosecutor in the Begusarai civil court and a noted human rights activist. Sharma, also an activist of the JP movement, was shot at point-blank range by the assailants who came to his residence on a motorcycle.

Sharma’s son told police that the miscreants came to his house asking to meet the public prosecutor for some work. Sharma was rushed to Sadar Hospital, Begusarai, where he was declared brought dead.

The incident sent shockwaves in Patna.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar asked DGP A R Sinha to conduct an inquiry into the the murder and provide adequate security to the bereaved family. He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family.

Shocked over the incident, Nitish Kumar held a meeting with the DGP and principal home secretary Afzal Amanullah, ADG Abhyanand and advocate general P K Shahi.
