The CPIM's highest executive body will meet in Delhi

The CPIM's highest executive body, the Central Committee will meet in Delhi over the next three days to finalise a draft on political resolution, which the party expects to adopt in its next party congress.

The party will also discuss issues like trying for a non-Congress, non-BJP Third Front in Indian politics and its approach to mainstream political parties.

Traditionally, the CPIM does not join any coalition where it does not have enough numbers, in terms of MPs to directly influence policy-making.

CPIM wants to maintain equal distance from both the BJP and the Congress. But they decided to support the Congress-led UPA government in 2004 only to keep the BJP out of power.

The Communists argued that it was more important to keep the communal forces out of power than their ideological differences with the Congress.
