Unidentified militants hurled a grenade and opened fire at police

Unidentified militants hurled a grenade and opened fire at police personnel in Imphal on Thursday.

Policemen were frisking and checking people late Wednesday night at Kwakeithel Police Outpost here and when they signalled a car to stop, police said on Thursday.

But instead of stopping, militants in the car hurled a powerful grenade and opened fire before speeding away, they said, adding police also fired at them. There was, however, no casualty on the side of the police.

After the incident all nearby police posts were put on alert and a search operation was launched under the command of Superintendent of Police
