Not being captain has helped my cricket: Ganguly

Set to become one of the elite cricketers to be part of 100 Test matches, batsman Sourav Ganguly has revealed that not being captain of the Indian side is the reason of his stunning run of form.

"Not being captain has helped my cricket," former India captain Ganguly said two days before his 100th Test at Melbourne against Australia on Boxing Day. "I'm happy to be a part of the club of 100 Test matches and 300 One-Day games. It's more of a satisfying feeling rather than any pressure," he added.

Ganguly, however, dispelled any talks of of extra pressure. "I don't think there is any pressure because of my 100th Test match. For me it's just another Test match."

Ganguly, India's most successful Test captain since he took over in 2000, was asked to step down following a prolonged slump in form in 2005, and was unceremoniously dropped from the side thereafter.

He, however, was recalled during India's tour of South Africa last year and has scored 1023 runs in the calendar year, his best ever.

The Bengal southpaw also echoed his captain Anil Kumble's thoughts on the Indian team being capable of upsetting the world's most dominant Test side for the past two decades.

"We are the only team who have competed with Australia over the last few years," Ganguly said, citing India's exchanges with Australia in Test matches.
