“I play a banker who unknowingly gets caught in a tangle for no fault,” says Nikita. But what is of greater interest is that she shares screen space with another former Miss India, Zeenat Aman, in the film.
“She plays my aunt,” reveals Nikita who developed a great camaraderie with the sexy Zeenie Baby of the 70s. “While shooting in Kuala Lumpur, we often went shopping and eating out. We bought a lot of handbags and tried out different cuisines. Zeenat, like me, is particular about her diet. She’d tell me, ‘During my time, even I was careful about what I ate.’ Perhaps we got along because we are both former Miss Indias.”
Like Zeenat, Nikita’s entry into Bollywood was easy because of the title. But she has a complaint, “There’s no proper system here. How are we supposed to know which filmmaker is working on a new script? Everything happens by word of mouth, which is the worse way of going about films.”
She was a sports anchor on television before she met Prakash Jha and Dil Dosti happened. The actress will next be seen in Ek Second Jo Zindagi Badal De. “I have done fashion designing, so I love designing my own clothes, the way I did for Ek Second...” says Nikita. Her talents also run into dancing, singing, and playing the piano. “I’m into English songs and used to be part of music bands before,” says Nikita, revealing her free-spirited attitude. “And I’m into fitness. My friends tell me I should write a book as I keep giving them health tips and stop them from eating unhealthy stuff.”
She’s happy with the way her career is moving. “It’s slow and steady,” says Nikita who wants to work with the 40-plus as well as young crop of actors in Bollywood. “Like, I would love to work with Rajpal Yadav,” she says.
